Characterisation

For our writing we have been looking at a big long word – characterisation. We found out that characterisation is when a writer describes a character by how they look, how they behave or act, and how they feel.

To help us understand we worked in groups to think of a character and create a mind-map for that character.

The mind-map then got passed on to another group. They had to use the character descriptions to draw the character. This was sometimes hard to do if there wasn't a lot of descriptions. We then shared our drawings to see if they were as the first group had described. A lot of us found this quite funny!

We now know we need to add in lots of details to describe our characters when we write so the reader can picture the character in their head.

Trip to Garden Centre

Last Wednesday we went a trip to Glue’s Garden Centre. This was to help us understand how to grow and harvest our own food. Thankfully we managed to miss most of the heavy rain showers and stay relatively dry! Kirsten gave us a talk about how we should plant seeds and how to look after them properly. We all had to listen very carefully so we knew what to do when we planted our own seeds. Kirsten then let us choose a packet of vegetable seeds for us to grow. This was a hard decision for some of us as there was a lot of choice.

In the afternoon we had to prove how well we had listened as it was our turn to plant the seeds.

We remembered that the soil had to be rubbed through to make sure there were no lumps in it.

We had to make a little hole in the soil with our finger for the seed to go in.

Then we had to cover the seeds with more soil.

Finally we added a little water to the seed. We had to be careful and not put too much water in or the seeds would drown and not grow.

We will now keep checking and watering our seeds to see if they grow!
